NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Port of New Orleans Harbor Police Department proudly announces the successful completion of its 44th Training Academy, marking the first academy since 2007. This milestone highlights the completion of months of rigorous instruction and preparation for a new class of officers committed to protecting the community.
The 44th Academy was conducted in partnership with the Tulane University Police Department, underscoring the value of collaboration and shared expertise in training the next generation of law enforcement professionals. Each graduate is now prepared to serve with honor, courage, and dedication within their respective communities.
“These graduates have shown remarkable perseverance, discipline, and dedication,” said Chief Melanie Montroll, Port of New Orleans Harbor Police Department. “By completing the 44th Academy, they are not only prepared to serve and protect, but also to embody the values of integrity, accountability, and community. Their commitment reflects our ongoing mission to safeguard and support the neighborhoods we serve.”
The eight graduates of the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) program completed comprehensive coursework and field exercises throughout a 17-week program. Training topics included firearms, physical fitness, Louisiana criminal and traffic law, writing reports, conducting interrogations and general investigative techniques. Harbor Police Department will add four officers to their ranks with the remaining four officers joining Tulane University’s Police Department.
“The Tulane Police Department is very proud to have partnered with the Port of New Orleans Harbor Police Department in this endeavor. Our partnership only strengthens the safety and security of our riverfront, its recreational spaces, and its patrons.” Frank Young, the Chief of Police for Tulane University, said, “I’ve worked alongside the Harbor Police and Chief Montroll for decades; from the lower-ninth ward to uptown New Orleans, and all points in between. I know that both of us are committed to the safety of our respective areas and citizens.”
